WHAT IS SHELL-GUARD RTU?
Shell-Guard Ready to Use is an EPA registered
Glycol/Borate Wood Preservative. This new generation of preservative
combines the well known effectiveness of borates with a glycol system
that increases the penetration into the wood to enhance the action of
the borate. Shell-Guard RTU is easy to use. It is a completely odorless
and colorless preservative that requires just one application for the
life of your home. Once applied to bare wood with a brush or as a spray
it will kill those insects that eat wood such as wood boring beetles and
termites. It also kills the types of fungi that are responsible for wood
rot and decay. Shell-Guard makes wood toxic to wood destroying
organisms.
IS SHELL-GUARD RTU AVAILABLE IN ALL 50 STATES
AND CANADA?
No. Shell-Guard Ready to Use is not registered
for sale in California or Canada. In California and Canada the only
Shell-Guard product which is registered for sale is Shell-Guard
Concentrate. Shell-Guard Ready to Use is available for sale in the
remaining 49 states.
HOW DOES SHELL-GUARD RTU WORK?
Shell-Guard RTU uses the moisture in the wood to
penetrate the entire log and kill insects deep within the wood.
Shell-Guard RTU is deadly to most wood predators. Shell-Guard RTU also
destroys fungi that cause wood rot and also kills wood-destroying
insects. The active ingredients of Shell-Guard RTU are eaten by the
insects and transported to their nesting sites to eliminate the insect
colony.

HOW IS SHELL-GUARD RTU APPLIED?
Shell-Guard RTU is shipped in a ready to use
format with no dilution or mixing required. The product is designed to
be field applied to clean, dry, bare wood with a brush or a low pressure
sprayer. Shell-Guard RTU is a penetrating wood preservative. Painted or
stained surfaces will not allow Shell-Guard RTU to adequately penetrate
into the wood. Alternatively, you can drill and inject Shell-Guard RTU
into insect galleries and hotspots. Shell-Guard should only be applied
when temperatures are between 40 and 90 degrees F. Apply one coat of
Shell-Guard RTU to all exposed sides of lumber or plywood. For lumber
thicker than 1 inch, apply a second coat of Shell-Guard RTU after the
first has been absorbed. Wait at least 20 minutes between applications.
Shell-Guard RTU treated exterior wood should not be exposed to rain or
snow for at least 24 hours after treatment. If necessary, cover freshly
treated exterior wood with a tarp.
IS SHELL-GUARD RTU SAFE TO USE?

will vary depending on the surface texture and the porosity of the wood
being treated.
