It's Time for a Fall Check Up for
Your Log Home!
After a long, wet spring and summer
the cool dry weather of Fall is
finally here! There is no better
time to check out your log home to
make sure it is ready for the
winter. Here are a few simple checks
to perform. Look for the
Super Fall Specials at the
end to get discounts and even free
products!
* Have cracks and checks
developed in your logs?
The
natural drying process will create a
certain degree of checking in any
log home. The important thing is to
seal up the upward facing checks
before they accumulate water and
initiate rot. The LogFinish.com
Check Kit is the
perfect way to seal up checks and
protect the value of your log home.

Check Kit,

* Is your caulking in good
shape?
It’s
a fact of life for log home owners:
logs shrink and move. When they do
you need to recaulk. Check around
the windows, doors and corners of
your log home, as well as at any
points where the butt ends of logs
join. If spaces have developed, it's
time to recaulk. We recommend
Energy Seal Log Caulk.
You will typically need about a tube
at each corner plus a half a tube
for each door and window. Sealing up
your log home will help you keep
heating costs under control! For

Seal Log Caulk,

* Do your logs still repel
water?
Just
take a garden hose and spray your
logs. If the water beads up all
over, your WOODguard
protection is still in place. If the
water soaks the surface and does not
bead up, it is time to restain your
home with another coat of
WOODguard. For more
information on WOODguard
Wood Preservative,

* Are the top sides of your
logs a different color?
The
sun is a powerful force to reckon
with. On round log homes the sun
will often drive the
WOODguard deep into your
logs on just the top side. This
leaves the top of your logs without
much protection. When this happens
it is time to restain. We recommend
cleaning your home first with
X-180 Weathered Wood
Restorer and then
restaining with WOODguard.
* Have any areas gone gray?
The sun is a powerful force and when
the sun gets to your logs they turn
gray from UV exposure. This is a
sure sign that you need to restain.
X-180 Weathered Wood
Restorer will get rid of
the gray and return your wood back
to a better- than-new condition. For

* Are there signs of mold
and mildew?
The
past 12 months have had record
rainfall in many parts of the
country. If your logs have mold and
mildew, particularly on the north or
any heavily shaded sides of your
home, it is time to clean it with a
bleach and water mixture, clean and
neutralize with X-180
and get a fresh coat of stain in
place that has been fortified with
M-1 Mildew Additive.

WOODguard
Temperature, Application & Storage
Guidelines - During late
Fall, Winter, and early Spring
applications follow these
guidelines:
-
Have your Woodguard on hand! Be
ready to apply Woodguard when
the warm days come.
-
Store your Woodguard in a heated
area. When Woodguard is stored
outside or in a unheated area it
gets very cold and viscous.
Store it at room temperature and
it is ready to apply.
-
Apply Woodguard when the
temperature is above 50 degrees.
In many areas this may mean
applying the product between
10AM and 4PM. Let the sun warm
up your logs and let it follow
you around the house. If a cold
front zooms through, take a day
off! There are still plenty of
warm days to apply Woodguard.
