WHAT IS MILL GLAZE?
Mill glaze" is the smooth glossy-like surface that develops on newly milled lumber during the production process. "Mill glaze" is generated by the heat from lumber planers turning at extremely high speeds. The high temperatures cause the wood sugars to form a glaze. Failure to remove mill glaze prevents proper coating penetration and can result in premature peeling and coating failure.
